How to prepare for another rate rise

Another rate rise? It's not guaranteed, but it's worth being prepared

Nobody knows exactly what the RBA will do next, but if rates rise again, you don't want to be caught off guard.

The cash rate has already increased by 0.75% in 2026, and inflation is still running above the RBA's target range. While another rate rise isn't a certainty, it's something worth keeping in mind when planning your budget.

What can you do now?

A few simple things can help you stay ahead:

  • Check your budget: Could you comfortably manage higher loan repayments?

  • Build a buffer: Having some extra cash set aside can take the pressure off

  • Review your home loan: Is your current interest rate still competitive?

  • Make your offset work harder: If you have an offset account, are you using it effectively?

  • Keep an eye on spending: A few adjustments now could make higher repayments easier to manage.

Thinking about buying?

Make sure you're looking at repayments that you could afford if rates were higher than they are today, not just what you pay right now.

You can't control what the RBA does, but you can make sure you're prepared.
